Heidi is 6-years-old and lives in Great Sutton in Cheshire with her family. Her great uncle Ian, who she is incredibly fond of, was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Heidi decided that she wanted to do something to help raise money for Alzheimer’s Research U.K and to have an adventure at the same time. Heidi loves walking and is taking on a massive challenge. She will be walking (virtually) from Land’s End to John o’Groats. She’ll be walking 603 miles (as the crow flies). Heidi’s family will be marking off on a map where she would be if she were walking ‘on the roads’. She’ll learn about the people, history and culture of the places she passes along the way.

Below, photos that I’ve received permission by dad, David, to share with you all.

Mapping her walk

Below: Heidi’s first Chicken Shop, with encouragement from her furry friend.

Heidi started on 17th March in Cornwall. She has been interviewed on local radio station Dee 106.3 and spoke so well they have asked to be kept up to date with her progress. Cornwall residents who dad, David, found on twitter recommended places for Heidi to “visit.” She has been to lots of beautiful places so far and learned about the Pirates of Penzance, the St Ives riddle/poem, the Huer’s Hut near Newquay, surfing and we have talked about tin mining and Cornish pasties.

The money is being raised by Heidi’s Just Giving Page. Www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Heidiwalk.

Heidi’s dad, David, manages a twitter page for her at Twitter.com/walk4alzheimers. David’s wife, (Heidi’s Mum,) Claire, runs the Facebook page for Heidi, which is Facebook.com/Heidi’s walk for Alzheimers. Heidi will also wear her bright orange Alzheimer’s Research U.K. T-shirt and carry a collection bucket on longer walks.

Former footballer Chris Sutton, who played for various football clubs including Chelsea, Blackburn, Celtic  and England tweeted a message of support for her which generated a great deal of interest in Heidi’s walk. Fans of Tranmere Rovers football club have also been great in their support for Heidi’s efforts.

She originally set a target of raising £1,000, but raised that quite quickly so increased her goal to £2,000. She reached £2,000 so moved her goal to £3,000 which she has reached also. Her goal is now £4,000 and she is on around £3,200.

Heidi told her dad, David, “I am really enjoying this adventure. I have met lots of lovely people on my walks and hope to meet lots more. I have been for a walk in the dark. I really enjoyed being on the radio. I want to raise a lot of money so that I can help my Great Uncle Ian and other people like him.”

Help Heidi and her family by sharing her tweets, this post, or of course donate using the link above! Thank you all for taking time out of your day to visit my blog. Greatly appreciated. Caz x

Time to celebrate. Well done Heidi x Caz x
